Neundorfer Strasse 34 in Plauen is the best proof of how quickly you can grow accustomed to something new and beautiful. There was an empty gap between the structures here for decades – but now an attractive residential and business building completes the line of houses.

Dr. med. Ina Ziegert has had her ear, nose and throat practice in this building since the end of last year. She has enhanced her home town with another dash of colour through the building.

“Plauen and the Vogtland region are so beautiful – we shouldn’t speak negatively about them, then they’ll be more attractive for young people too,” she says.

Ina Ziegert completed her school-leaving exams in Plauen in 1989 and went to study medicine in Jena with her husband Alexander. They completed this with their son, who was born in 1990. The family moved to Erfurt in 1996 and completed their specialist medical training – she became an ENT specialist and he trained to become an orthopaedic specialist, a sports physician and a rheumatologist in Arnstadt. She gained her doctorate in 2005 after the birth of her daughter. She returned to Plauen at the beginning of 2009 and took over the ENT practice of Dr. Maria Dimmel.

“We wanted to be closer to our parents – that’s why my husband refused to turn down the enticing offer of taking over a practice in Reichenbach and reserved beds at the town’s hospital in 2008,” Dr. Ina Ziegert explains, talking about the leading role played by her husband in returning to the area; and she adds, “Our connections to the region were naturally an important reason for our return too.”

She still smiles at the thought of making the switch from Erfurt to Plauen. “I arrived everywhere 15 minutes too early because the distances were much shorter. But that’s good too – it gives you more free time.” The Vogtland region with its natural surroundings offers everything that the two medical specialists enjoy in life: water for sailing, many cycle paths, cross-country skiing trails, which are even lit up in Grünbach, concerts, theatres or town festivals. They enjoy going to Bad Elster and a visit to the “Waldquelle” restaurant next to the open-air theatre often forms part of this. “We still have many friends in Erfurt, who visit us and repeatedly rave about how attractive Plauen and its town centre are and what the Vogtland region has to offer,” the medical doctor reports.

She is now enriching the city centre with her practice too. A fully-fledged medical district has developed on Neundorfer Strasse during the last few years; 30 medical specialists have established their practices here – along with physiotherapists, pharmacists, speech therapists, orthopaedic technicians etc. too. “This means short trips for patients, the tram stops outside the door; and there are also parking spaces,” says the doctor, listing the amenities.

“We should talk more about these kinds of benefits that Plauen and the Vogtland region have to offer,” says Dr. Ina Ziegert.
